The MSI MAG 242F is a fast 23.8-inch gaming monitor designed for smooth, responsive gameplay and competitive gaming. It combines a Rapid IPS panel with a sharp 1920 × 1080 Full HD resolution, delivering a responsive image while maintaining the wide viewing angles associated with IPS technology. The display operates at an impressive 200Hz refresh rate, allowing fast-moving gameplay to appear significantly smoother than on conventional 60Hz displays. With a 0.5ms GtG response time, the MAG 242F is built to minimise visible motion blur during rapid movement. The monitor supports a 200Hz refresh rate, enabling it to display substantially more frames per second than a standard 60Hz monitor when paired with suitable hardware. The panel also provides a rated 0.5ms GtG response time, helping reduce ghosting and motion artefacts during rapid transitions. Combined with AMD FreeSync Premium, the monitor can dynamically synchronise its refresh behaviour with compatible graphics hardware, helping reduce screen tearing and stuttering for a smoother gaming experience.

Rapid IPS Panel with HDR Ready Support

The Rapid IPS panel provides a combination of speed and image quality, with a wide 178° horizontal and vertical viewing angle. The MAG 242F supports 1.07 billion colours using 10-bit processing through 8-bit + FRC, while its colour coverage reaches approximately 115% sRGB, 89% DCI-P3 and 86% Adobe RGB under MSI's stated CIE1976 measurements. The display also features HDR Ready support, allowing compatible content to benefit from an expanded range of brightness and contrast information. With a 1000:1 native contrast ratio, 300 cd/m² SDR brightness and an anti-glare surface treatment, the monitor is designed to provide a clear and colourful image across gaming, multimedia and general desktop applications.

AMD FreeSync Premium and Gaming Features

The MAG 242F includes AMD FreeSync Premium with an activated variable refresh range of 48–200Hz. This technology helps synchronise the display refresh rate with compatible graphics hardware, reducing tearing and stuttering when frame rates fluctuate. MSI also includes AI Vision, which can improve visibility in darker areas of games by adjusting brightness and image characteristics to reveal additional detail. The monitor incorporates Anti-Flicker and Less Blue Light technologies designed to provide a more comfortable viewing experience. Its video connectivity includes one HDMI 2.0b port and one DisplayPort 1.2a port, with both supporting the native 1920 × 1080 resolution at up to 200Hz. A dedicated headphone-out connection is also provided for compatible headsets and headphones. MSI has included console-focused functionality as well, with support for 1080p at 60Hz and 120Hz and VRR support for compatible PlayStation 5 and Xbox systems. HDMI CEC is also supported. The monitor does not include USB ports, speakers, KVM or PIP/PBP functionality, keeping its connectivity focused on the core gaming experience.
